Grassroots cyclocross racing wouldn’t be sustainable without its race officials – the team of commissaires. They do a fantastic job, and like most other people involved in our events, they give their time for free.
The leagues, race organisers and volunteers set everything up, but it is the commissaires who actually manage the racing. They must ensure that the races are run safely, fairly and according to the rules, and that the event stays on schedule. The role is very demanding. It’s hands‑on, fast‑moving, and vital for the integrity of the event.
So, next time you race, give the commissaires a pat on the back – or just say thank you. Without them, you wouldn’t be having so much fun racing cyclocross.
