Andy Wearing of Mike Vaughan Cycles topped the V40-49 standings and was our V40-44 champion for 2024. Andy won six races and was on the podium in three others, which put well ahead of Chris Mapp (second) and Scott Palmer (third) in this sub-category.
Here are Andy’s reflections on a very successful season.
“Fast and fun is how I’d sum up my 2024 cyclocross season! I’ve been able to enjoy some brilliant racing and fantastic support – thanks everyone! I’m happy to have taken 4 wins and podium results to give me the lead overall. Top for me was Lilleshall, where we had some close racing on a course that has a bit of everything – climbs, technical corners & fast planks to jump – everything I like 😊
I worked hard this year to keep strong through the season, and am super grateful for the support of Mike Vaughan Cycles, who have been fantastic at keeping my wheels turning! I made the error of only taking file treads to the Sundorne slipfest, but was bailed out with some mud tires in the nick of time – other than that the season has gone pretty smoothly. It’s been exciting to have a large V40 field again this year, and I’ve enjoyed some close racing with Gary Price, Colin Miller and David Morris. We’ve had fun along the way too!
A big ‘high five’ goes to everyone who makes the league possible, as riders we hugely appreciate the effort that goes into organizing and hosting the races and the overall WMCCL; we’re very fortunate to benefit from all your hard work. Every year, I feel very privileged to have the support of spectators and other riders – thank you, we really have a great community. Now we can look forward to the 2025 league!”
It’s a pleasure Andy, thanks.
