Under-16 Male Winner

Under-16 Male (or Youth A if you prefer) was another very competitive category in WMCCL 2024. The winner, with four wins – including the Regional Championship – was Oliver Larner of Lichfield City CC. But second-placed Arthur Oliver and third-placed Ben Whitehouse also had wins.

Here’s Ollie’s summary.

“I am very happy with my results in my second cyclocross season and U16 final year. I have learnt a lot again this season and will continue to learn how hard I can push myself physically and hope to continue developing my bike skills and racing tactics.
One of the biggest highlights this season was representing the West Midlands in the Inter Regional Championships and whilst things didn’t go my way due to a puncture and a crash, it was great to be part of a team that held our own against national opposition throughout a very stormy weekend.

I am proud of winning both the Regional Championship and the series against some strong competitors. Four different riders won races in the series this year, so winning overall with some wins myself was very positive. I’m encouraged by getting closer to the top 10 in the National races (my season’s aim) having placed 11th in two so far.

I have really enjoyed spending time with friends and fellow racers this year and look forward to seeing them all at my next races. I would like to push myself harder next season and continue to be competitive, as I move into the Junior ranks.

Thank you to my friends, family, Lichfield CCC coaches and the West Midlands league for supporting me this season and a massive thank you, to the organisers and volunteers that stand out in the cold, every weekend.”

Thank you Ollie, and good luck in the Junior category.
