Riders tend to progress through the Youth categories in two-year cycles. Their first year in a category is tough – because they are competing against riders who are older and physically stronger. The second year is usually their chance to shine. But our Under-16 Open champion has had a fantastic first year in that category. Isaac Vickery of Rotor Race Team UK won all ten events that he started, and also became the West Midlands Regional Champion.
Isaac finished well ahead on points of two Halesowen Cycling Club riders: Oliver Howard, who finished runner-up, and Ambrose Mapp, who completed the podium. Isaac is looking forward to consolidating his position at the top next season.
“I always enjoy racing at Baggeridge Country Park but this year I thought the best course was Shrewsbury – the course is worthy of a National. I would like to thank the WMCCL for helping to fund my trip to the Europeans in Slovakia – I will be going again in 2026 – this time to Romania.
I am proud to be the West Midlands Regional Champion and to finish the season ranked 10th nationally as a first year Under-16. Next season is going to be a big one for me.”
We can’t wait to follow your progress Isaac! We hope to see you wearing some stripes again.
