Open Masters 45-49 Champion

The next in our series of WMCCL 2025/26 category winners is Andy Wearing of Mike Vaughan Cycles. He won the Masters 45-49 Open category from Matthew Higgins of Lichfield City Cycling Club in second place and Rob Neely of Solihull Cycling Club third.

Andy won the Masters 40-49 Open race in Round 1 at Berryfields (pictured), and he made the podium in that race on three other occasions. These are his words on the season.

“The vets category has been really strong this year, with great racing and plenty of laughs along the way. I’ve had a really mixed season, from winning the first round to being super ill in October! I’ve really appreciated everyone’s support, being cheered on so much makes a big difference – and Mike Vaughan Cycles have done a great job of keeping the bike running more smoothly than the rider this season! I really enjoyed the tweaks made to the Shrewsbury course, and the final round at Abbey Stadium; the course layout worked well, and the ice added another dimension 😊

A big thank you to the WMCCL organisers, as always the races have been well run, with some good new venues too. Both of my boys raced the U8 & U12 league for the first time, and it’s been brilliant to see the enthusiasm given to the younger riders from the league, families and supporters alike. The positivity that runs through the league is fantastic – I’m looking forward to the next season!”

So are we Andy!
