Junior Male Winner

The last of our four winners from Solihull CC is Sam Brownsword. He dominated the Junior Male category in WMCCL 2024 – winning eight races, including the Regional Championship. Sam was joined on the Junior podium by Aidan Walters of Stafford RC in second place and Sam’s teammate Patrick Neely in third place.

Sam is another rider who values the social aspects of the League.

“I have really enjoyed this season of racing. All the venues and courses at the races I attended were incredible! I love the camaraderie and friendships that we all share at WMCCL, particularly ones that extend to quick jokes whilst crossing paths during the race – if you have enough breath left to make a joke that is. I want to thank the commissaires, volunteers, and organisers that make each race possible and safe to run.

I’ve had some good competition this season, mainly from the U23 and Senior categories – particularly Sully Berry, Tom Payton, and Rob Burns, as well as Ryan Oldfield, Jefferson Tear-Verweij, and Aidan Walters in my own category. I’ve really enjoyed this competition and being pushed by others in the league to improve.

My season highlight was winning the race at Sandwell Valley. The mud and other conditions made the race quite technically challenging, as well as having the long straights to power down. I particularly enjoyed the respite that came with the long downhill in the next field over. My favourite race, however, was the Dynamic Rides event at the Heart of England Conference Centre, as it was the perfect combination of slippy mud that means you slide, deep mud in which you have to run, technical little bits, and straights for putting out what power is left in your legs.

I once more want to thank all the commissaires, volunteers, organisers, spectators, and riders who participated in any part of the league. Well done all!”
