British Cycling has updated Cyclo-Cross Regulation CX2.1.4, which covers the use of cycles and equipment under BC and UCI races. For the reminder of 2026 this will appear as a digital update on its website, and from 2027 onwards it will appear in the printed format.
The new wording is as follows:
British National Championship and National Trophy Events for Senior and Junior riders held under these Technical Regulations are restricted to cyclo-cross cycles only, as defined by the UCI Regulations. For all other age categories in British National Championship and National Trophy Events, riders may use any type of cycle fitted with drop handlebars. At all Regional level events, riders may use any type of cycle.
This exercise has been carried out due to the new UCI Regulations on handlebar width, wheel depth, helmet design and frame stickers. BC realised that it needed to protect the sport for Masters and Youth riders, so the key difference is that these categories are no longer bound by UCI regulations in the races noted.
