Arm Numbers

Arm numbers will be used in the WMCCL for the first time in the 2026 season. This responds to a long-standing request from race commissaires and judges. This is especially important in muddy races, when a number on the back can become unreadable, but it will also help race judges record numbers as they pass through the finish. So, riders will be required to wear the number in addition to the number on their back.

A single (re-usable) vinyl number will be issued to every rider in the Under-12 and older categories. Under-8 and Under-10 riders will not be asked to wear an arm number. The number is 10cm by 10cm in size – with a hole in each corner. It must be worn on the upper right arm. It must not be trimmed or folded, and riders will be expected to return it in good condition at the end of the season – or race if they are not a WMCCL member.

Pins will also be supplied, but riders may prefer to use a different method of fixing it. That is fine as long as the number is clearly visible. Alternative methods include threading a lace or piece of elastic through the holes and tying it behind the arm.

We realise that arm numbers are unpopular with some riders, but it remains essential that riders’ numbers are visible. We need it as a backup to chip timing and to resolve disputes over close finishes and other riding incidents. So comply with our rules on this:

  • Upper right arm.
  • Facing forward.
  • Use the holes.
  • Do not fold.
