The Under-16 Female category in WMCCL 2025/26 was very competitive. Five riders secured at least one win. But the rider with most wins was Jaime Downing of Halesowen Cycling Club. Her four victories made her our U16F Champion. Georgia Lloyd of Mid Shropshire Wheelers was second and Sophie Anthony of Stafford Road Club was third.
Jaime has told us this about her season.
“Unfortunately my 2025 season was far from my best due to illness and reoccurring health problems, but due to consistency I still managed to win the league. I missed many Nationals this year and most disappointingly I had to withdraw from the inter-regional team; an event I was really looking forward to.
My favourite race this year was the first time we visited Redditch as that was the best I felt racing throughout the whole season. I love muddy races but we didn’t get a lot of mud at all this year. I think I only used my pit bike once!
I am as always, very grateful to all of the organisers and volunteers who put on rounds and would like to thank the WMCCL for my prize money which I am using to help fund a trip to the Netherlands to watch the CX World Champs which I am very excited about!
I hope to spend the next few months rebuilding my fitness and I’ll return to WMCCL in 2026 as a junior! This is a little daunting but I look forward to racing with all the strong but friendly, encouraging women I know the WM league are so proud of.”
Well done for sticking with it this season and good luck in the Junior category Jaime!
