We are very proud of the young riders who start out in our league and go on to ride at the top level internationally. One of those riders is our U23 Female winner this year: Rebecca Woodvine of RR23 runandride.co.uk.
Rebecca is at the start of her international cyclocross journey, and we hope that it is a long and successful one. It’s great when riders like her find time in their busy schedule to return to their roots. Here are her reflections on the season so far.
“I am super happy to be crowned U23 female league winner. West Midlands league was where I started my cycling journey so without the support in my early years I wouldn’t be where I am now competing internationally on the continent.
With many trips to Belgium, Ireland and around the UK, I was only able to race at Newport and Ullenhall. I loved the toughness of Newport, where I had a great battle with Ceris Styler.
This year has been filled many experiences including Dublin and Antwerpen World Cups, 2 C1s: Ruddervoorde and Niel- where I finished 32nd and 20th. Also, many C2s in Belgium and the UK.
With the help of the WMCCL Bursary, I was also able to travel to Switzerland, which was a once in a lifetime opportunity. With world class coaching, friends from all around the world and skills learned, I was extremely happy I got to experience this.”
We’re always delighted to see you back in the WMCCL Rebecca!
