Solihull CC was our most successful club in terms of category wins this season – although they didn’t win the Team Prize. We’ll tell you about that later. But today, we’ll introduce two of Solihull’s four winners.
Ailsa Neely won the V45-49 Female category. Denise Burrows was second and Lynsey Whitley third. Ailsa is part of a family who all ride the WMCCL, and they all finished in the top-10 in their category. What a shining example they are of our league! There aren’t many sports in which that could happen.
Here are Ailsa’s words.
“I have really enjoyed racing the league again this year. It’s such a friendly atmosphere at the WMCCL events, with the women riders in particular being very supportive of each other.
My best result this season was at Redditch with the incredibly slippy off camber, where Helen Kirk and I fought it out for 4th place overall. I’ve also had some really good battles with Sally Reid and Vikki Sivertson this season. They have pushed me to work hard and improve as the season progressed.
It was great to have some new courses to ride this season too, although Sandwell has to be my most frustrating race (pictured below). I enjoyed the course and was doing well in the challenging muddy conditions, but I just could not keep my chain on.
But that’s CX! And I can’t wait to do it all again next year!”
